Gender Department committed to ensure PLWDs are empowered economically

People Living With Disability(PLWD) have been urged to take advantage of opportunities offered by the County Government to engage in economic activities to better their lives.

Gender, Culture and Social Services Chief Officer, Ms.Tumme Abduba said the Department is committed to ensure that PLWDs are economically empowered.

She was speaking today during the Youth Disability Inclusion Project follow up process Courtesy of the County First Lady Mrs.Elizabeth Kinyanjui in Subukia Sub County today.

The County Government recently signed an MOU with the National Council of Persons with Disability which will enable them to get funding which includes Local Purchase Order(LPO) financing.

Ms.Tumme however noted that the amount was reduced this Financial Year from Sh 55m to Sh 27.5m, a move that would greatly affect Persons with Disability.

She urged them to use the opportunities available in all spheres as there were partners involved in the initiative .

Her remarks were echoed by the Principal Administrator in the Department of Gender Culture and Social Services Mr. Kennedy Mungai who informed them that they need to be involved in business activities since the County has given them 100% business waiver .

“Be active in doing business since you are exempted from paying the business permits, the National Government has also exempted you from paying taxes and this should be an added advantage, “he said.

Mr.Mungai further urged the Youth to take care of their ageing parents as they were a blessing to them.

He reiterated that the ongoing Gender Based Violence(GBV) campaign is aimed at reducing cases of domestic violence.

Nakuru County has been affected with cases being reported in all Sub Counties. In a bid to curb the vice the County Government is constructing a center in Njoro to assist the victims.
