KIPTANGWANY MARKET
Construction of market sheds at Kiptangwany market at Elementaita Ward in Gilgil Sub County has been handed over to the contractor.
The expansion seeks to create more space for traders dealing with clothes, fresh foods, electronics and other household goods.
According to Trade CECM Raymond Komen, the project will entail electrification of the market; ground leveling before construction, laying of a concrete floor for food and cloth sections, construction of worktops, control of drainage system, erection of water tanks and dustbins.
“We are upgrading and expanding this market in bid to uplift living standards of county residents engaging in businesses as envisioned by Governor Lee Kinyanjui,” he said
He said all programs under his department are geared to improving the livelihoods of locals urging fresh produce traders at the market to purchase their goods from local farmers.
Komen at the same time appealed to the contractor to draw his workforce throughout the construction from the locality to create employment and ensure money circulation in the area.
The department Chief Officer Hussein Mohammed noted that the upgrade comes with fortunes to traders who have been grappling with burst sewers, the scorching sun, insecurity and inaccessibility during heavy rains.
The area MCA Moses Kamau thanked Governor Lee for his continued commitment to transform lives sting the project is poised to transform several families in the area.
