Nakuru City Leads the Way In Unveiling a Transformative Blueprint For Sustainable Development
By Nabwire Naholi
Nakuru City’s journey towards the development of City Vision 2050 demonstrates the power of vision, strategic planning, and dedicated leadership in building a city that enhances the quality of life and fosters economic prosperity.
The City Management today held a meeting with Nakuplan Consultants Limited to review the ongoing development of the policy framework and deliberate on the targeted scope of work to ensure completion.
The program which spans from the conceptualization to the inception stage, has now progressed into the crucial phase of implementing a comprehensive framework.
City Manager, Gitau Thabanja, noted that the complete document will serve as a roadmap for sustainable development, emphasizing inclusivity and economic growth.
“The focus on sustainable urbanisation, justice, democracy, prosperity, and resilience underscores the holistic approach in shaping the Vision 2050 policy,” remarked Thabanja.
According to Mr Thabanja, the document strictly addresses the City scope but there are plans to cascade to municipalities in the county in subsequent phases in future.
Aligned with H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s visionary manifesto and six-point urban agenda, the framework highlights four strategic pillars a just city, a democratic city, prosperous communities, and a resilient city which reflects the desires and aspirations of Nakuru residents.
The upcoming phase of the project will involve extensive stakeholder engagement to sensitize the public on the policy document and incorporate their views.
This encompasses community workshops, key informant interviews with County departments and other institutions, road shows, taskforce workshops, radio shows and focus group discussions.
The City stands as a trailblazer, being the first urban area in Kenya to develop a city vision policy document.
Notably present during the meeting were technical staff from both NakuPlan Consultants LTD and Nakuru City Board.
