Nakuru County to start unblocking clogged drainage in Gilgil on Thursday
County Government of Nakuru will start rehabilitating the drainage systems in Gilgil on Thursday.
A team from the County led by Chief Officer for Roads Eng Sammy Mwaura today toured Gilgil where they assessed the drainage system in the town. They said blocked trenches will be unblocked and new culverts constructed.
They discovered that water clogging in the town centre is caused by water flowing from the Nakuru-Nairobi highway when it rains.
Most of the trenches are clogged by silt and garbage while some were blocked during the construction of the Gilgil-Nyahururu road.
The team from the County included Gilgil Sub-County’s resident engineer Laban Anyona, Resident Surveyor Ben Njoroge, Urban Planner Jane Muriuki and Governor Lee Kinyanjui PA James Mwaura.
Also present was Gilgil Ward MCA Jane Ngugi. The team later met members of Gilgil business community led by Charles Karanja (Chawaka) who said they support the initiative by the County.
